West Stow

About a month ago (I'm always behind in this blog) Matt said he had a surprise for us and he'd planned what we'd do that day. I was super excited and totally stumped as to what it could be since he said it would only take 15 minutes to get there. We start driving and as we get closer to this location I'm still at a loss as to what it could be. Finally we see a sign that says, The first Anglo-Saxon village - West Stow.

It was really cool! This little site had a replica of the village, an exhibit and a small museum with various artifacts that were found locally. They also had a few people dressed up with different things to tell us about. One man even spoke and wrote olde English with a quill pen and in calligraphy (definitely thought of Cassie). Another man had a display of old shields and helmets. Matt was very interested in that display but the man took a break before we had a chance to speak to him about it.

Some piggies in their little farm area.

This house was partially underground.

Matt pretending to be a Saxon king.

Standing by the sunken house.
Ty who did amazing on this day and deserved a gold star, however mommy deserves an epic fail since he had an accident and peed all over his clothes and I forgot to pack a change of clothes. :(

cool door latch.

standing by the door latch. We couldn't get over how thick the thatch on the thatched roofs were.

Inside one of the huts, can you imagine sleeping on a wood floor every night only with a pelt of some animal to cover you?

Inside the same cabin, their fire pit.

One of the cool shields and 2 helmets. Matt was in heaven. :) He also mentioned that he wanted to start collecting old helmets. :(

Inside another cabin.

Where they'd hang their pots to cook the food.
What I love about being married to Matt is no matter where we go or what we do we always have fun. What I love about Ty is that no matter where we go or what we do he always makes it into an adventure. :) I love my little family, life is good!
